Position: Defensive End and Tight End
Size and Speed: Mendez is 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds.
Statistics: He had seven receptions for over 100 yards and one touchdown on offense and 25 solo tackles, 15 assists and three sacks on defense.
Mendez is also a baseball prospect. Last season as a first baseman and designated hitter he had 17 home runs and a .330 batting average.
Honors: None.
Favorite Schools: He has heard from Oregon, Oregon State, Washington, Arizona state and Princeton.
He has no offers yet.
When asked for a list of his current favorites, he named the following schools (listed in order of mention):
1. Arizona State - "They have good football and baseball programs," Mendez said.
2. Oregon State - "They have a good football program there too."
3. Miami - "They just won the national championship in football and they have a good baseball program too."
4. Oregon - They just beat Colorado in the bowl game. They've sent me some camp information."
Skinny: "I'm a good team player, I lead by example."
He hasn't decided if he will play football, baseball or both in college. It will depend on who offers him scholarships and for what sport.
He bench presses 220 pounds and squats 310 pounds.
He also plays basketball and is involved with the school leadership program.
Mendez' coach said, "Josh is a great kid with great size and good hands. He always finds a way to make plays."
