Position: Outside linebacker
Size and speed: Beason is 6-foot-2 and 212 pounds. He has been timed at 4.5-seconds in the 40-yard dash and has a 350-pound bench-press and a 30-inch vertical leap. He also has a 2.8 grade-point average and should have no problem qualifying.
Statistics: Beason playing mainly at strong safety recorded 52 tackles, six sacks and one interception last season. He is expecting to play on offense, too, this season.
Favorite Schools: Beason has already earned one scholarship offer from Virginia Tech. However, he said he is extremely open at this point in the recruiting process and likes teams like Miami, Florida State and Florida, also.
Skinny: Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade outside linebacker Jonathan Beason doesn’t have much time to rest. So when Rivals100.com called him two weeks ago for an interview his family said he would get back to us shortly – two weeks and countless football and track training sessions later, Beason finally caught back up with Rivals100.com
“I guess I’ve been a little busy,” Beason said with a laugh. “We don’t get much down time here. I’m in training for track mainly now. I do about everything in track – 4X100 meter relay, the 400, the 200 and the long jump.
“My best 400 time is 49.7 seconds.”
Which calculates into solid football speed on the field, but just like every good athlete Beason isn’t satisfied.
“I’d like to work more on my foot-speed,” he said. “That’s one thing that I think I can get better at. My coaches are working us hard in that.”
Beason is already attracting attention from schools all over the place, and he said some of the mail from the schools is starting to look the same.
“I was really excited at first,” he said. “But now a lot of them look the same. They all talk about how good their program is, what their schedule is like and what improvements they’re going to make. I’m going to take my time with this, and I’m not going to rush it.”
