Junior to Watch: Geno Thompson

School: Ocoee (Fla.) West Orange

Position: Safety

Size and Speed: Thompson is 6-foot-2 and weighs in at 180 pounds. He runs the 40-yard dash in 4.54 seconds.

Statistics: As a junior, Thompson made 87 tackles and registered two sacks. He recovered two fumbles (one for a touchdown) and had one interception.

Honors: All-district honorable mention

Favorite Schools: Alabama, LSU, Northwestern, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Rutgers.

Skinny: Thompson is an aggressive player who likes to make the big hit across the middle of the field. What he lacks in overall speed, he makes up in hustle and toughness. As a junior, Thompson played against some of the top competition in Florida including last year’s top wide receiver Ryan Moore and this year’s stud running back Alan Abrams.

A team leader on the West Orange team, Thompson idolizes Tampa Bay Bucaneers safety John Lynch and tries to play the same way. He’s not sure which summer camps he’ll attend this year and doesn’t have a leader.

“I’m looking for a school with a good education and a solid football program,” he said. “I’ve already qualified with a 1090 SAT and 3.84 GPA.”
