Position: Weakside defensive end
Size and speed: Dillon is 6-foot-5 and 210 pounds. His coach said he runs a 4.5 in the 40-yard dash and is also a solid student off the field with a 3.8 grade-point average.
Honors: Dillon earned all-conference and all-area honors as a junior with even loftier goals as a senior.
Favorite Schools: Dillon is making a name for himself with college coaches – getting hand-written correspondences from teams like Auburn, Baylor, LSU, Vanderbilt and many more. He has attended LSU’s Junior Day events and will be at the Rivals100 Junior Day next weekend in Lafayette, La.
Skinny: Room to grow. That’s one of the biggest reasons why college coaches are going to flock to Independence, La., this May to see weakside defensive end Antron Dillon.
The 6-foot-5, 210-pound Dillon has an amazing frame, Independence coach Keith Carona said. And it’s that frame and his playmaking ability that is already garnering attention from schools throughout the Southeast.
“He has the size and the speed,” Carona said.
“He’s a big 6-5 and about 210, 215 pounds with the ability to run a legit 4.5 or a 4.6. He had a bum ankle from basketball – but he’s better now and we expect the world of him next season.”
With a frame like that, Dillon’ spot on defense might end up being different with different schools recruiting him. Some schools have told Carona they like Dillon at outside linebacker, while other project him at a defensive end.
“He can do both,” Carona said. “He has the tools. He’s quick enough to be an outside linebacker, but we also like to play him at defensive end in a seven technique. He’ll even drop back as a safety for us sometimes. I don’t know what colleges will do with him – but they’ll have plenty of options.”
Carona said there is one knock on Dillon’s game that he hopes he can help his prize pupil improve on before he gets to college.
“He needs to get a little more physical,” Carona said. “But he’s a great kid and a good hard worker. He’ll get that fixed for sure.”
