Junior PA athlete picks up first offer

2008 athlete Leon Green out of West Mifflin, Pa. already holds one offer. Who does the 5-foot-10, 194-pounder have a scholarship from and what does he think about that program?
"Right now I hold an offer from Pittsburgh," he said. "They verballing offered me around September. I do like Pittsburgh and in particular the coaching staff. Coach Junko is a cool guy. He's a good person and I like his character."

"There are a lot of players on the team that I know from around here. I also think they'll be a really good team in the future. They have younger kids now, but once they gain experience they'll be good. One other thing is that they play a lot of freshman."
Aside from Pittsburgh, plenty of other schools are intrigued by Green.
"I'm getting a lot of interest, but once I take my SAT in December. I think teams will come in more," he said. "So far this fall, I've taken visits to West Virginia, Pittsburgh, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and Penn State. Every visit I've been on I've liked. None of the trips have been significantly better than the others.
"I'm wide open right now in recruiting. I never grew up a fan of any school. Actually I only started playing football since seventh grade and didn't watch it very much."
With so many schools knocking, what will he be looking for out of a program?
"I want to see if I fit in with the players wherever I go. Off the field with them is big," he said. "I also want to see that they have my major in psychology. Another thing I want to see is if they'll help me mature as a player and person."
Green has impressed so far this season despite West Mifflin's struggles.
"We got our head coach late and have struggled badly this year, but I'm doing well," he said. "I've got 1,300 all-purpose yards including 900 yards passing. I also have 11 total touchdowns.
"I can say that I'm starting to throw better. I know where my receivers are and I'm much more accurate with my passes. Defensively I've done really well. I don't know my statistics, but I've gotten a lot of tackles and pass breakups."
