Junior OL picks up first offer

The defense at Denton (Texas) Ryan gets a lot of attention and for good measure with likes of Mario Edwards, Jordan Richmond, Alex De La Torre and Dominique Banks in the front seven. However, the offense for the nationally-ranked squad cannot be ignored.
One of the key cogs of that offense is guard Matt Griffin. The 6-foot-3, 290-pound junior recently picked up his first offer from an in-state program.

"SMU and Louisiana Tech are the ones I'm hearing from right now," Griffin said on Wednesday evening. "I got a letter from Louisiana Tech and I just talked to coach (Adrian) Klemm from SMU today. He said he was offering me a full ride. He wanted me to come out and watch some games and practices."
Griffin says he did not see the offer coming.
"I talked to him a little bit at the football camp when I went there this summer, I think it was July," he said of Klemm. "I talked to him there and this is the first time I've made contact with him since then.
"I was very surprised. When he offered me, this is my first full ride. It's just surprising because this is my first one and it's the first time I've talked to him."
Griffin attended a couple of other in-state camps this summer as well.
"I went to the Texas A&M camp and I went to a Baylor camp," he said. "I think I did really well but I think I did better at Texas A&M. Both campuses are really gorgeous with really good facilities and good coaches.
"I talked to Dat Nguyen (from A&M). He just said he'd be watching me this year. I haven't talked to him since then though."
With the recruiting process having just started for Griffin he says it is far too early to have any favorites. He does admit that SMU has made an impression and that he grew up a fan of another program.
"Not really," he said of favorite. "I kind of like SMU but I'm still undecided right now. I'm an A&M fan because it's my family school. My uncle and my grandpa went there and my mom went to Tarleton State, which is like a sister school."
