Junior Furtch gets first offer

The ice has been broken with Paris, Texas athlete Keon Furtch.
When he arrived home on Tuesday evening, Furtch found his first scholarship offer waiting for him from Texas A&M. Although he had been hearing from the Aggies, the 6-foot-3, 190-pounder didn't expect things to start this fast.
"It was exciting," Furtch said about his offer from Texas A&M. "I like them. That's a big school and I like the way their campus is set up. I went down there a long time ago for an AAU basketball tournament and we got to check out the campus."

Another Big 12 school is pouring on the interest. If Furtch had to guess, he says that Oklahoma State might be the next offer.
"I get a lot of stuff from them," Furtch said about the Cowboys. "I get letters almost every day or every other day at least. I'm pretty sure they'll be next."
As for what he's looking for in a school, there are several factors. Distance from home isn't an overriding factor, but Furtch says it "would be nice" to be close to his family.
Furtch also has an early list of favorites.
"I would say that top group is OSU, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Iowa, Michigan, and just about any of the Texas schools," Furtch said. "It would be a good deal to stay close to home, but if a good school is far away, I wouldn't have a problem going there either."
Furtch says that he has no plans to participate in track this spring. He'll use this off-season to workout and train for next season.
