Juco TE commits to Wildcats

Kentucky has picked up a commitment from one of the nation’s top junior college programs.
City College of San Francisco tight end Jamir Davis gave his verbal to the Cats this week, according to Rams coach George Rush.

“He has committed to Kentucky,” Rush said. “He had several schools interested in him. Tennessee was in looking at him recently and some others like Arizona, Oregon, Oregon State and Temple were very interested, but he liked the situation at Kentucky and his opportunity there.”
Davis (6-3, 245, 4.65) was named All-NorCal Conference in 2002 and 2003. He’s not the type of player that put up gaudy statistics, though.
“We have a running joke with our offensive coordinator that the first catch our tight ends make ties the school record and the second one sets the new record,” Rush said with a laugh. “We just don’t throw to our tight ends a lot, only in key situations. We have so many great receivers here that the ball distribution is pretty tough for a tight end.
“He’s a fabulous blocker and a real intense kid. That’s his real strong points. But he also runs well and has great hands. He’s capable of becoming a real good receiving tight end at Kentucky. They’ve gotten an outstanding player.”
