Juco DE likes Cal - even with no coach

Despite the loss of their head coach, Cal is still trying hard to retain the interest of Montea Parson, the all-conference defensive end from Los Angeles’ Harbor College who officially visited the Berkeley campus on Oct. 12.
“I just got off the phone with their coaches,” Parson said of Cal. “They don’t know who the head coach is going to be, but they’re wanting it to be one of the guys off of the (current) staff. If that happens, then they said they know that they want me real bad.”

Of course, Parson isn’t only being recruited by the Golden Bears. The 6-foot-3, 270-pound prospect is also talking with Iowa State and Oregon among others. He has set an official visit to Iowa State for Dec. 14.
South Carolina had been in the picture but Parson says he hasn’t heard recently from Gamecock assistant Dave Roberts.
“I don’t know really where I’m at with South Carolina right now. I’m just taking it as it comes. It’s nice to be recruited like this. I know I’m going to get a chance to play Division I.”
Parson is a mid-year graduate and is expected to have three years to play two.
