Juco DB sticks with pick

Oakland (Calif.) Laney College two-star cornerback Joe Bates made a commitment to San Jose State a few weeks back, but the mid-term junior college prospect said he was hoping that a Big 12 school would step up with a scholarship. But in the end that wait ended without an offer.
"I talked to coach Tommerdaul at Texas A&M, and he told me they wanted more of a linebacker type safety, but he really liked me and pushed my ability on all the staff there," Bates, who is 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds, said. "So I'm just going to sign with San Jose State."

Bates made the decision originally after visiting on Dec. 1. He was also recruited by Missouri State and Portland State.
"I'm just going to sign with San Jose State," Bates said. "I was the only safety they A&M was looking at, but they were out of scholarships, so he said they are just going to move some people around on their roster."
