Juco DB making plays early

Independence (Kan.) Community College cornerback/wide receiver Alonzo Wilson may have watched his team fall to Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College this past Saturday, but felt good about shutting down one of the conferences' top receivers in Devin Thomas who was held to only 64 yards on the day.
Even with the loss, a 6-foot, 178-pound prospect like Wilson is going to feel good about going into that game and shutting down a big play threat like Thomas. In fact, he feels like it's a building block for the season.

"You're going to be nervous because that's a rivalry game and then you have a top receiver to go against, so it's double duty," Wilson said. "We're not scared of any receiver. I mean we don't get that many passes to my side or anywhere period thrown our way. We knew what time it was and we took care of business."
So far Purdue, UCF, SMU, and Western Illinois have all offered Wilson, who is set to graduate Independence in December. With that early graduation, the speedy two-way player knows he needs to move things along.
"I know I need to hurry up and start figuring things out and if I plan on going to the [NFL] then I need to get on that path to get there," Wilson said. "I like all of the schools really. One of our old coaches is at Western Illinois now and they seem to like me. I don't really care how big the school is as long as I can play."
"I mean the schools all call me to check up, but I'm really in to the season right now too."
One school Wilson grew up watching was Florida State, but for now it appears that may not be an option.
"I love that place," Wilson said about the Seminoles. "You know, I had friends and family members that went there. It's just like, I feel I would fit in at that school. My wide receiver coach knows a lot of guys on the coaching staff and I asked him to put in the good word for me."
"Well see what happens."
Independence is 1-4 on the year and Wilson already has two interceptions including one returned for a touchdown. He is also averaging 30.8 yards per kick return on the season.
