JUCO corner talks recruiting

Orchard Park (N.Y.) Erie C.C. cornerback Andre Kates has visited a pair of big-time programs in the past month, and while they have not yet offered he still has plenty of options to choose from.
The 6-foot, 195-pound junior college corner spoke about those trips, now that he has the benefit of some hindsight, as well as some other things.

"Oh yeah, I went down to the University of Florida for their spring game," he said. "I sat in on their defensive meeting. I went to a practice and spring game, too.
"I liked it down there. I loved it. I would rate it a 10.
"I went to North Carolina back on February 3, 4 and 5. It was kinda good. They were doing some construction and it was during the time when the basketball team had the national championship, so I didn't really get to see the fan base. I would rate that about an eight."
Kates claims offers from Memphis, Washington State, Miami, Buffalo, Maryland, BYU and Baylor. He said the Oregon State coaches are close to extending an offer as well.
"I'll be going to Baylor. I'll also be making a trip to Miami," he explained. "I'm not sure exactly where else. There's a May 2 junior college combine in Orange County, too."
While Kates cannot camp at Florida or North Carolina because he is a junior college player, things are looking good between he and the Tar Heels.
"I've built a strong relationship with coach (Everett) Withers," he said. "I sent a transcript to him and he said I'm the only JUCO he's recruiting. He wants a JUCO corner, too."
Kates said he would like to make a decision before the start of the next football season.
