Broughton previously visited Oklahoma State (Dec. 9) and Baylor (Nov. 18).
A former standout at Hanahan (S.C.) High, Broughton believes that the Pirates interest in him stems from head coach Skip Holtz, an assistant at South Carolina for six years prior to this season, having strong ties to the Palmetto State.
"I think he came after me because we played South Carolina's JV team in a game," Broughton said. "His father (former Gamecocks head coach Lou Holtz) was after me while he was at South Carolina, so I knew that Skip Holtz was going to come after me."
Two of his Georgia Military teammates, Fred Wilson and Willie Barton already are part of East Carolina's 2006 recruiting class. Wilson already is enrolled at ECU and will be able to participate in spring practice with the Pirates.
The 6-foot-1, 200-pound junior college All-American had 10 interceptions this season for GMC.
According to Broughton, it was a team effort.
"The defensive line and my position coach Rob Manchester were a big part (of my success)," Broughton said. "Also, our defensive coordinator Taylor Burke.
Broughton will make his final decision following the visit to ECU.
