Jorge Fernandez considers visits

Miami (Fla.) Westminster Christian quarterback Jorge Fernandez used momentum from impressive summer camp appearances to get interest from some top schools.
“I’m getting calls from Illinois and Liberty,” Fernandez said. “And I’m still getting letters and invites from Florida State, UCF and Florida.

“I’m interested in going someplace close to home, but if I don’t get anything close I’ll have to go far away, like California or Iowa or something.”
Fernandez turned heads at both Michigan and Miami this summer during the Wolverine and Hurricane summer camps. He was the quarterback MVP of the Miami camp, and threw two passes 71 yards at the Michigan Camp before having to leave early, and becoming ineligible for camp awards as a result.
While he’s been getting letters about taking official visits, Fernandez said that he didn’t want to take time away from school or the season, and would only consider a visit during a bye week.
If recruiting has become a distraction, he hasn’t let it affect his team-first mentality.
“We’re 2-2 right now, and we’re playing well,” Fernandez said. “We won our last game Friday, and we’ve been finishing strong and playing hard.
“As far as myself, I’ve been doing what I need to do for the team, and I just try to do what I can to get everyone down the field and working for each other. I just try to take advantage of the opportunities I get and of things down the field.”
