Raleigh (N.C.) Southeast Raleigh wide receiver Dante Jones has been sitting on two offers for awhile. The 5-foot-10, 170-pounder has taken a number of visits this fall and plans to head out to check out a few more in the coming weeks.
"I have offers from Appalachian State and Duke," he said. "I got Duke on June 9th and Appalachian State eight days later. I am also hearing from Connecticut, Maryland, North Carolina, Middle Tennessee and a bunch of smaller Division I-AA schools."
Jones believes two more programs are close to offering.
"Middle Tennessee just wants my full season highlights and Old Dominion plans to come to my games to evaluate me. The rest of the schools want to see my highlights. Maryland was going to offer me this summer, but got a commit the day before they were going to do it, so they are continuing to watch me. Meanwhile, North Carolina wants one more player and if they don't get Johnathan Alston or Marquez North, then I'm probably the offer."
Does Jones like anyone in particular?
"Duke's always been up there at the top from the beginning," he said.
"I knew going into the camp I was going to get the offer. I've known the coaching staff since the summer going into my junior year. Coach Cutcliffe is a cool guy and I like that my brother is not far away in Durham."
Another school may be ahead of Duke though.
"However, the school that has surprised me is Appalachian State," he said. "I really like the program. The only problem is they are not Division I, if they were I'd have committed, but since it's I-AA it's less exposure."
In the past three weeks, Jones has visited Duke, Appalachian State and North Carolina. He noted plans to head back to Appalachian State this weekend followed by Duke next weekend.
On the season, Jones has helped Southeast Raleigh to a 4-2 record.
"I didn't start on our team last year since we were loaded," he said.
"This season, I started off a bit slow because of a sprained ankle.
The first two or three games I couldn't run full speed, but I'm playing really good now. I have 350 yards receiving, four touchdowns, 200 yards rushing, two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown and
