Jones makes an impression on ND coach

Offer number one is in for Orlando (Fla.) Edgewater safety Mike Jones and it didn't take long for offer number two to follow. After picking up an offer from Auburn earlier this month, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound striker has added the Fighting Irish to his young list of interested parties.
"Things are starting to speed up," Jones said. "Notre Dame had come up to the school for Spring Practice so I guess they had seen my transcripts at the school. Corwin Brown had played football with my dad so he already knew him so he called up my dad and told him that they were offering."

With the offer just arriving on Tuesday, Jones already holds a very strong interest in Notre Dame for several reasons.
"This is a big one because I want to play up North," he said. "There's a lot of Florida teams that got a lot of depth and are stacked up so I'm trying to come up and play. They're a prestigious school. It's a really smart school and you have to have good grades. They had gotten a good recruiting class last year so I know that they're going to be pretty good."
It seems that Notre Dame knows a thing or two about Jones as well and has an idea of the best way to utilize his big frame and blitzing ability.
"They're trying to recruit me as a strong safety," he said. "They want me to come off the edge and do some zone stuff."
After finding out about the offer, Jones has also decided to factor South Bend, Ind. into his travel plans for the summer.
"Probably in the summer I'll take a little thing up there and see the school because I know it's probably going to be nice."
Don't expect the offers to slow down anytime soon for Jones, a Michigan coach was showing interest at Tuesday's practice and could be one of the next schools to extend an offer.
