Jones lands seventh offer

There is no question that defensive end Datone Jones (6-4, 240, 4.8) from Compton, Calif., is one of the hottest prospects on the west coast as he just picked up his seventh offer. His third in less than a week.
"Well, Datone seems to be taking it all in stride," Compton coach Calvin Bryant said. "Everything is happening so fast so he's just loving every moment.
"When I told him that Arizona State offered him, he said 'Yes!' and seemed to be very excited," Bryant said. "I can't really say how high ASU is on his list, but I do know that Coach Dennis Erickson and his coaching staff will do an excellent job with the program and will not be overlooked.
"I told him that when the two other schools that he is interested in (Notre Dame & Cal), sees his film, he'll possibly receive more offers," Bryant said. "I also talked to Ron English, defensive coordinator at Michigan and sent Datone's film to him yesterday (March 5th).
The Arizona State offer comes hot on the heels of his offers from UCLA and Fresno State.
"I was talking to UCLA defensive line coach Todd Howard and he liked Datone's highlight tape so we sent him some game film," Bryant said. "UCLA's staff must of been impressed because Datone called me and said he had an offer from UCLA.
"Datone is was very excited about his UCLA offer and I said it was a great day, but to keep working hard.
"Datone also received an offer from Fresno State so it has been a good week for him."
Besides Arizona State, UCLA and Fresno State, Jones has offers from Colorado, Ole Miss, Arizona and Oregon.
Jones was a first-team all-league selection the very tough Moore League after racking up 60 tackles and four sacks. He also earned his team's most improved player award as a junior.
Jones plays both ways for Compton but projects as a defensive player on the D-I level. He also runs the 200-m and 400-m in track.
