Jones grabs hometown offer

Stafford (Texas) 2017 Rivals100 wide receiver Hezekiah Jones has seen the recruiting attention arrive early with scholarship offers already in hand from Baylor, Houston, Michigan, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas State, and Texas Tech.
His most recent offer arrived from the University of Houston on Monday.

"It means a lot because I have a lot of family that goes to UofH and I've been following UofH for a long time," Jones said. "I knew coach Applewhite before he got to UofH when he was at UT. I've talked to him a couple of times. It was real exciting just to get an offer from a hometown school like that. I'm real excited to get up there and see what they have to offer me."
Jones plans to visit Houston on Thursday to get a look at the campus, facilities, and watch practice. Following his trip to Houston is a trip out West for stops at USC and UCLA. He has been in touch with both schools and he is looking forward to seeing everything for himself.
"Just to see the tradition they have. It's a very rich tradition at USC, so I'm real excited to see that. I'm hoping they offer me when I get down there," Jones said. "It's the same with [UCLA]."
After his west coast trip he does not have any other visits on his mind yet, but a few college programs have let him know they will be visiting him in the spring.
"I just talked to Oregon on Monday," Jones said. "They said they were going to be down here in the spring. I'm really excited for them. I mean who wouldn't be excited, it's Oregon. And Oklahoma said they were going to be down in the spring."
The early interest has created quite a stir, and Jones is taking everything in at this time in the recruiting process.
"I'm just taking it one step at a time. I'm going to commit if the time is right for me and my family but not any time soon," Jones said. "I mean all of them have made big impressions. Every school I've been to, so there's really no favorites."
