Jones close to committing

Outside linebacker Leland Jones was scheduled to take an official visit to Maryland this weekend, but Jones didn't go through with those plans. He's starting to evaluate his situation and a commitment might not be far off.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker from Atlanta (Ga.) Douglass was contacted by Maryland and told the Terrapins had satisfied their needs at linebacker with commitments from Chase Bullock, Erin Henderson, Eric Lenz and Mike Marvis. That, according to Jones, was quite a surprise.

"I was obviously interested in Maryland, since I was going on an official visit to see them," said Jones. "So it's definitely a little bit of a surprise. But that kind of thing happens to a lot of people in situations like mine. If I learned anything from it, it's that there isn't as much time as you think there is. It's a little bit of a reality check."
Jones has also shown a lot of interest in schools like Minnesota, Clemson and South Carolina. Does he have a leader amongst those three?
"I don't see one as way out in front of the other two," he said. "I think all three are possibilities. If I had to choose one right now it would be Minnesota. I've been really impressed with them for a while. Like I said before, I now realize I don't have as much time as I had thought. I might make a commitment real soon once I talk to a couple more coaches.
"For a while there I had just become a little 'satisfied' or whatever with the situation I was in, but I can't take anything for granted from here on out. I think it's in my best interests to commit here pretty soon."
