Johnson watching interest grow

Being the No. 1 ranked guard in the 2016 class comes with certain perks. The most noticeable of them are scholarship offers, of which Baveon Johnson has six already. That list will grow significantly in the coming months.
The most recent school to make things official with the four-star Lakeland (Fla.) Lake Gibson product was Mississippi State, which Johnson says has his attention. He names no leaders at such an early juncture and has no offseason visits planned just yet.

What he does have is one school recruiting him harder than the rest. It's an approach Johnson appreciates.
"Kentucky is recruiting me the hardest for sure," Johnson said. "I really like they're style of recruiting, too. They're really, really trying. They tell me I'm the top priority and it really seems like I am."
Arizona, Indiana, Nebraska and Wisconsin join the Wildcats and Mississippi State on Johnson's list of offers. That group, it seems, is just a small spattering of which schools may be involved when things are said and done. Johnson isn't short on college interest, after all.
"Florida State told me I need to get my grades up a little more before they offer," Johnson said. "Syracuse has been messaging me a lot on Facebook lately, so maybe they'll offer."
But for all the uncertainty that surrounds the early stages of Johnson's recruitment, some things are set in stone. Johnson knows what he wants in a college. The next year will be all about finding it.
"It's about my academics and it's about playing time," Johnsons aid. "I want to try to start as a freshman. It's also about the coaches - how good I am with the coaches."
