Johnson thinking about Duke trip

Justin Johnson has landed his first offer from Duke and the Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco wide receiver said Sunday at the Rivals.com Five-Star Academy at Corona Centennial that he's thinking about a visit there in the next couple months.
"They were recruiting me and came up to the school a couple times," Johnson said. "They saw me at track practice and they seemed pretty excited about me.

"I sent them my highlight tape and they made it official when I sent them my transcripts because I have a 3.4 GPA right now. After they got the transcript they talked it over with the whole coaching staff and they decided to talk with me.
"At the end of May or the start of June, I plan to go out there just to look at the campus. I may or may not commit. I'm not sure yet. It depends on how the trip goes and I'll have to talk it over with my dad. I also want to see what else goes on from there and I'm hoping to get a couple more offers along the way."
Johnson, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect, said it will be especially important to get a good feel for the Duke campus while he's there because it's so far from home and might be different from what he's used to.
Before he gets too excited about the Blue Devils, he wants to make sure it would be a good fit.
"I do want to go out to North Carolina before I thought about committing because I want to see if it's a good fit for me," Johnson said. "I know out there is way different than it is out here so I want to see if I'd be able to fit in well."
Stanford, San Diego State, Washington and Cal are four other programs showing interest in Johnson, who caught 27 passes for 365 yards and one touchdown in his junior season. He said if he was offered by Stanford then the Cardinal would be tough to beat.
"If Stanford offered me they'd be on top," Johnson said. "I love their focus and how they put academics way before sports.
"Getting a degree from Stanford would be the best thing that could happen and it would open so many doors for me in the future."
