Johnson talks Texas offer

Kirk Johnson has always liked Texas a lot especially since his father, Johnnie, played there. After he received an offer from the Longhorns in recent days things got even more real.
The three-star running back from San Jose (Calif.) Valley Christian said Sunday at the RCS Northern California that he loved his weekend trip to Austin and was seriously considering Texas but might wait at least a little while before considering a commitment.

"It was the first time I got to actually meet the new staff, officially meet them in person, so it was cool," Johnson said. "They are a great staff and I really like what I see. Coach (Charlie) Strong I really believe he's a great thing for the program so it's going to be good the next few years.
"I also like what he stands for in terms of hard work. The program is definitely going far. I definitely like what I saw when I was down there.
"Overall it was a great visit. My brother and I both got offered so that was cool. It was a great feeling especially with my dad being who he is."
Johnson's brother, Collin, is a 2016 wide receiver who has landed offers from Texas, TCU and Cal so far. The three-star running back said since he knows so much about the Texas program it's really high on his list but isn't planning to commit right away.
"It's definitely a dream to get an offer from Texas since I was a kid," Johnson said. "It's the same thing with my brother so for the whole family it was a great day. It means a lot.
"I'm just talking with my parents. I'm supposed to go to the junior day for Arizona coming up on April 12 and then possibly I might visit UCLA. With a commitment, it might be soon but I'm still waiting a little bit. I definitely want to take my visit to Arizona first especially since I told them I would be over there."
Arizona, UCLA, Cal and Utah are all interested in Johnson but he said Texas is the main school involved - and it has to be considered a frontrunner at this point.
"There have been a few but the main one has really been Texas for me," Johnson said.
