Johnson talks recent offers, visits

Detroit Cass Tech cornerback Donovan Johnson landed on the first class of 2017 Rivals250 presented by Under Armour earlier this week. He also recently landed his first Power Five offer following a camp at Tennessee.
"Me and a couple players camped there," Johnson said. "We were all talking to the coach and the coach asked if he could tell me something informational in front of them. That's when he said I have the offer.

"It was a great to know I came down, competed and was one of the top DBs down there. I just know I have to come out to every camp like that and I know I'm going to have a target on my back from people who want what I've got."
Besides the excitement of adding an offer from the Volunteers, Johnson was able to evaluate the campus and coaching during his camp stay.
"The facilities were just so great and the coaching staff was so inspirational. They showed a lot of love," Johnson said. "I hear that the Vols fans are so crazy, so I have to get back down there soon. I want to get down there for a game and I'm pretty sure we'll get down."
Johnson and his Cass Tech teammates also camped at Cincinnati and Louisville on the trip when he saw Tennessee. He went into Cincinnati's camp already holding an offer from the Bearcats and was able to connect with his position coach there.
"Me and Coach Clink (Steve Clinkscale) got to talk a little bit," Johnson said. "He showed me a couple new techniques and he was just telling me how the process is starting to take off like he said it would. It was really just good to talk with Coach Clink one-on-one and he really helped me."
Johnson's final camp of the summer will be to Ohio State on July 24. He has been hearing from the Buckeye's coaching staff since the spring.
"I am going to the Friday Night Lights for sure and try to prove I am the best corner from my class," Johnson said. "I have been getting a lot of interest from them and Coach (Kerry) Coombs said he likes me a lot, can't wait for me to get down there."
The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Johnson is coming off a sophomore season in which he recorded three interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown. He debuted at No. 155 in the first Rivals100 for the 2017 class that was released earlier this week.
