Johnson taking recruiting slow

Minneapolis North athlete Tyler Johnson is the fourth-ranked prospect in a deep 2016 class from the state of Minnesota, but he is in no rush to make his college selection.
The 6-foot-2, 179-pound Johnson holds three Power Five offers from Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin, but it has been several months since he has been on a college recruiting visit.

"I haven't been able to go to any junior days or spring practices yet," Johnson said. "I haven't really planned anything yet, but I think I'm going to start soon. I just started AAU basketball and I think I'm going to play baseball this year for my school."
The school Johnson knows best thus far in his process is the hometown Gophers, which just picked up their second commitment from an in-state prospect Thursday night.
"They tend to inbox me on Facebook, usually, just to keep in touch with me," Johnson said of Minnesota. "At this stage, with them being in my hometown and the only school I have actually (attended) a college game, they're pretty good."
Wisconsin is the most recent offer, coming through last month. Visits to Madison and Iowa are being considered as Johnson starts to think about his spring schedule.
"I think I will get out sometime this year to go check those schools out," Johnson said. "I'm just excited to see the atmosphere of the school and see how the games are."
Johnson lists no leaders and which school he will select to continue his career at is a decision he is nowhere ready to make.
"I think I might wait until my senior year to take some officials," Johnson said.
Ranked as the No. 49 athlete prospect in the 2016 class, Johnson threw for 1,702 yards and 26 touchdowns and rushed for 1,340 yards and 14 touchdowns from the quarterback position while adding 20 tackles and nine interceptions on defense as a junior.
