Johnson starting on the camp scene

After a stand out performance at the St. Louis stop of the Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour last month, Minneapolis (Minn.) North athlete Tyler Johnson will take his talents to several college camps this summer.
"I just went to the Minnesota camp (Sunday) and that went really good," Johnson said. "They had me playing wide receiver and defensive back. I got some good work in on both sides of the ball and got coached up pretty good. Right now, based on the camp, they're still trying to figure out where to play me at."

Minnesota is one of five schools that have offered the 6-foot-2, 179-pound Johnson. His most recent offer came last week from a Big 12 school.
"I just picked up one from Iowa State," Johnson said. "They came through the school a few weeks ago and I found out they offered me from my head football coach."
Johnson does not know a lot about Iowa State at this stage of the process, but plans to make his way down to Ames next week to learn more.
"I plan on going to the Iowa State camp June 19," he said. "I want to meet the rest of the coaching staff, because I only met one coach. I also want to know if I am going to feel comfortable down there."
The other Power Five schools that have offered Johnson are Iowa and Wisconsin. He lists no favorites heading into the summer.
"I was thinking of taking it into senior year and taking some official visits," Johnson said. "All of them have been in contact with me still, keeping in touch with me almost daily."
Other schools continue to track the class of 2016's No. 38 ranked wide receiver as well, and he will camp at another Big Ten school later this week.
"I plan on going to the Michigan State camp (June 13)," Johnson said. "The (coach) contacted me through Twitter and told me to give him a call. So, I called him and he told me about the camp and said he wanted me down there."
As a junior, Johnson played several positions for Minneapolis North, including quarterback where he accounted for over 3,000 yards of total offense and 40 touchdowns. He is likely to land at wide receiver or defensive back in college.
