Johnson off to a fast start

Running back Ian Johnson (5-11, 190, 4.4) from La Verne (Calif.) Damien is also starting as the team’s middle linebacker for the 2003 season. Johnson’s stellar two-way performance was key in Damien’s opening game win against Pasadena (Calif.) Muir 35-7.
Johnson rushed for 102 yards on 16 carries and scored two touchdowns while averaging 6.4 yards per carry.

Both touchdowns showcased Johnson’s power run ability as he crushed through two goal line stands for pay dirt.
Johnson also picked off a pass and took it back to the house for another score.
Johnson’s performance saw him get selected Area Player of the Week.
So far Johnson has received phone calls from UCLA, Arizona, Colorado State, Fresno State, Nevada, and Utah State.
Oregon is Johnson’s early favorite and they are expected to be in the audience for a Damien game in the very near future.
UCLA running back coach has been to a practice checking out the talented Mr. Johnson.
In 2002, Johnson rushed for 1,492 yards and 21 touchdowns. He is also caught 15 passes for 353 yards. Johnson was selected all-CIF, all-area and all-league for his junior season performance.
Johnson is strong and fast who has terrific balance. “Ian is a very tough back who can take a hit and rarely fumbles,” Damien head coach Mark Pasquarella said. “He runs with a purpose.”
“Ian hasn’t even begun to reach his full potential,” Pasquarella said. “There is no telling how good he’s going to be.”
