Johnson lands Big 12 offer

Taariq Johnson and a bunch of Los Angeles (Calif.) Augustus Hawkins teammates recently went on a tour of schools and the big 2017 receiver landed his first offer at Baylor.
It was definitely a big one for Johnson, who recently transferred from Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, especially since Baylor's offense is so well-known for going up and down the field and utilizing its receivers.

"The family environment stood out and of course the offense," Johnson said. "They have the No. 1 offense in the nation and it's somewhere I can see myself playing.
"I talked to coach Art Briles and he's a nice guy. I'd like to play for him but as of right now I'm going to weigh out all my options and look at all my schools."
It is still way early for the 6-foot-3, 206-pound prospect who looked good this past weekend at the Passing Down SoCal Elite 7on7 Regional but Baylor does pique his interest.
Johnson is a top receiver and he wants to play in a pass-friendly offense. Baylor could give him that opportunity.
"They get the ball to their receivers," Johnson said. "They trust them. They just throw the ball up and let you go get it. That's what I like."
On the tour, the Hawkins' prospects saw Baylor, TCU, Oklahoma and SMU. Johnson was just offered by Ohio as well but he's unsure if others will get involved soon. San Jose State and Washington have been showing a good deal of interest as well.
The 2017 prospect believes more offers will come closer to the start of his junior season.
"It's still kind of early," Johnson said. "Probably during the season we'll see how it goes."
