Camden, N.J. defensive tackle Shukree Barfield has some impressive early offers. However, he decided to make a soft commitment to his early favorite.
"I committed to Clemson around three weeks ago," said the 6-foot-4, 290-pounder. "I really liked their defensive coordinator and it seems I'd fit in well in their defense. I'm going down there for an unofficial visit on July 19 to see how I like everything. I'm sure I'll like it."
However, Barfield isn't quite done with the recruiting process.
"I go to West Virginia this Friday for an unofficial visit and I am heading to Penn State next week," he said. "I have an offer from PSU, Tennessee and Tulane so far and West Virginia will probably offer as well. Right now I like Clemson better than all of them though."
There are two teams that could get in the mix for Barfield at any time it appears.
"I told the folks at Clemson that I'm committing, but it's not final or anything, it's just a verbal commitment," he said. "If Ohio State or Miami, especially Ohio State, were to offer me, I could change my mind. Both of them are sending me mail but I didn't get a visit from any coaches from either school in May."
As a junior, Barfield has 55 tackles and six sacks.
