Jerome Boyd Pulls the Trigger

While talking to several of the players who visited Oregon this past weekend, many of them commented that multiple players were very close to pulling the trigger and committing to the Ducks. One of those players we heard was close was Los Angeles (Calif.) Dorsey safety Jerome Boyd and he made it official earlier tonight.
“I had really been feeling Oregon for awhile now,” Boyd said. “Even at the CaliFlorida Bowl, I was kind of starting to turn in that direction and the trip really put things over the top for them. Actually, about a month ago when Coach Bellotti and Pellum came in for a home visit, that’s when I had a feeling Oregon would be the school for me.

“The trip this past weekend was amazing. Just hanging out with the players on the team and seeing how well everyone gets along was great for me. It felt like a big family there and no school can match their facilities. Eugene is definitely a football town too, everywhere we went, all I saw was green and gold and the players are treated like celebrities.
“By Saturday, I knew that was the place for me and I almost committed on Sunday during my meeting with Coach Bellotti. I decided to hold off and give it some more thought but I talked to Coach Pellum tonight and told him I was ready to commit and he was real excited about that. I think I can come in and play right away and that’s what I’m looking to do.”
Boyd, 6-2, 185 pounds was just named 1st team All-State today and was arguably the top safety in the state this past season. He hits like a truck, runs very well and has great football instincts. Boyd just doesn’t play his position but in games we saw, he was often the one directing his teammates where to go and making sure everyone was lined up properly. He’ll get bigger and definitely has the talent to see the field as a true freshman next season.
