Jerod Mayo has new leader

Hampton (Va.) Kecoughtan linebacker Jerod Mayo favored NC State following his official visit last weekend. However, things have changed a bit following his latest trip.
"Man, these official visits are crazy," said the 6-foot-2, 214-pounder. "I was just at Virginia this weekend and I loved it. They've got a slight edge now on everyone because I hit it off so well with everyone and I really got to sit down with the coaches and see everything."

Mayo was hosted by UVA linebacker Darryl Blackstock on his official visit.
"My defensive coordinator coached Darryl and Big E (Elton Brown) in high school, so I've know those guys for awhile," he said. "I also spent a lot of time with coach (Danny) Rocco breaking down film and seeing where I'd fit in."
Mayo isn't ready to make a decision. He has three more visits to take.
"I leave for Purdue on Friday and then I take some time off for the Holidays," he said. "Then it's Tennessee (Jan. 9) and Virginia Tech (Jan. 16) and then decision time."
Three schools stand out right now for Mayo.
"Virginia, NC State and Tennessee are probably the top three," he said. "I'm interested in checking out Purdue because they're in a great conference and they had a good year and Virginia Tech plays great defense, but those two are behind the rest right now."
