Hilliard (Ohio) Darby defensive tackle Antonio Jeremiah is a man of few words. But even he couldn't hold back his excitement when he found out he had been selected to play in the Offense-Defense All-American Bowl in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Jan. 4.
"My cell phone had been cut off, but when I turned it back on I had a message from Rivals.com letting me know they wanted me to play in an All-America game," Jeremiah said. "I was so excited. I told everybody about it. When I found out that it was in Florida, then I knew for sure I was in. I can't wait to get down there and play some football – and see some pretty girls."
While Jeremiah - who is 6-foot-4 and 280 pounds - is excited about his trip to South Florida, he is heading to the All-American Bowl with a game plan in mind.
"They're going to see me all over the field making plays," Jeremiah said. "My mission is to go down there and be a quarterback's worst nightmare. The quarterback from the West better be ready for me."
Jeremiah, the nation's No. 11 defensive tackle, has been selected to play for the East squad.
"I want to see what the other guys all over the country are like," he said. "That's another thing that got me excited."
Jeremiah is working hard to stay in football shape for the All-American Bowl, and wrestling season is already under way. Jeremiah was ranked sixth in the state of Ohio in the heavyweight division as a junior.
Jeremiah lists Wisconsin, Ohio State, Minnesota, Michigan State and Louisville as his top teams. He has offers from all those teams, except the Buckeyes.
