JC TE ready for final three

After returning from his second official visit, Independence (Kan.) Community College tight end Ray Gurley is only ready to think about his next three trips.

"I went to San Jose State this weekend," the 6-foot-5, 256-pound Gurley said. "At one point or another I had trips set for this weekend to Kansas and to Mississippi State, but that changed. I've been to Kansas on unofficial trips. So I didn't want to waste a trip up there. Mississippi State told me they didn't have any scholarship for a mid-term player and be able to stay under the scholarship limit."
With those two out of the way and a prior trip to Tulsa done, what did Gurley think of San Jose State?
"I had never been to California before. That was the main reason I went on the trip. I had a good time. I enjoyed seeing the school and the game. They were playing for a bowl game so they were up for it. I just don't think I want to go that far away. I also don't know how interested in San Jose State I am."
Gurley's first official trip was last weekend to Tulsa.
"It was nice at Tulsa, but the only real thing they have is that it was close. They're a losing team. No one was in the stands for the game when I was there. It was bad. I don't want to play in a situation like that. And if the coaches are on the hot seat right now, who knows if they'll be there next year, let alone for my whole career."
Gurley's schedule includes trips to Southern Mississippi next weekend (Nov. 29), Arizona on Dec. 6, and Nebraska on Dec. 13.
"Really, these next three trips are the big ones for me. These schools are the ones that matter. It's a whole different level of football at those three schools."
