"He has been following Michigan State for a while," Independence coach Kent Keith said. "He likes what he knows about the program. The coaches from there have talked to him too."
Adams, a native of Belleville, Ill. also likes the closeness to home the East Lansing school would offer.
"Leundo has been through some tough times recently," Keith said. "Last spring his dad died in a car accident. That alone would be tough to work through. Then three weeks later, his mother was in a car wreck. She was left paralyzed. In the early summer he had a friend die. And then just before school started back up, his six-year old brother was playing with a gun. It went off and shot him in the head. He is still in a hospital. So Leundo has had a lot of things on his mind."
The distractions have not kept Adams from playing for Keith's team though.
"He's a fighter. He's going hard. He would really like to find himself at a place where he could be able to get home quickly if he needed to, but that won't be the only consideration he looks at."
Adams received his first scholarship offer on Monday, from TCU.
"The TCU coaches came by here Monday," Keith said. "They liked what they have seen already enough that they went ahead and extended him an offer. I'm sure they won't be the only ones to do so as long as Leundo continues to work hard."
