JC DT has interesting tale

Want to hear a weird recruiting story? Listen up for the tale of Scott Young, the Dixie State College defensive tackle.
Young, an academic full qualifier out of Midvale (Utah) Hillcrest High School, started as a freshman at Dixie as a 6-foot-5, 305-pound defensive tackle. He went to Dixie because there was no Division I interest in him as a high school senior.

That changed after his first year at Dixie. Because he was already a full qualifier coming out of high school, it allowed colleges to continue to recruit him, even though he was only a junior college freshman.
Well, USC found out about Young and had him in for an official visit in March of 2001.
“I went over there,” Young said. “And they offered me a scholarship to play offensive line. They wanted me to move positions.”
But that wasn’t something that was in his heart.
“I love playing defense there was just no way I could give up playing defense.”
So Young turned down a scholarship offer to Southern Cal to return to Dixie for his sophomore season. But as he was returning to Dixie in August of this year, Southern Cal called him back again.
According to Young, they told him they would let him play defensive tackle.
But by then Young had had enough of the merry-go-round. He had already moved his stuff back to Dixie and the St. George, Utah campus.
“I just thought I should wait it out. I know it was a little risky, but it was a situation where it all happened just a little late for me.”
USC has not been in contact since, but other schools certainly have.
Young has scheduled official visits to South Carolina for Dec. 7 and to BYU for Dec. 14. North Carolina State will also likely get a visit. All three schools have already offered him a scholarship.
Oklahoma and Tennessee are also making contact, but have not went so far as to ask him in for a visit just yet.
Young claims no favorite among his choices, but he admits that he’s ready for the wild-ride to be over.
“I’ve had a great time here at Dixie so I have no regrets, but the next stage of my life is coming up soon. I’m ready for it.”
It sounds like some colleges can’t wait for that stage to begin as well.
Young plans to enroll at the school of his choice in January. He will have three years to play two.
