Jaylin White needs more time to make his decision

DOTHAN, Ala. — Last week Dothan (Ala.) running back Jaylin White announced a final three of Florida, Florida State and Purdue with October 10 being the commitment date.

On Sunday night, the three-star made a change. He decided not to commit this week, and he could expand his list of schools.

"I pushed my decision back and [I need to] re-think my college choices," said White. "It hit me over the weekend that I just need a little more time."

As soon as he announced his commitment was pushed back, Mississippi State reached out to him. He is still interested in talking to schools like Ole Miss, South Carolina and Texas A&M as well.

He doesn't want too much longer to find his school.

"I feel more schools will come in and I will have more of a variety of choices before I make my decision. Hopefully a month from now I will have my school picked out. I want to have my decision by early to mid November."

White said the Gators, Seminoles and Boliermakers are still in it. Nobody has been eliminated.

The surprise in his final three had to be Purdue. They offered later than the others and it is farther from home, but the staff has shown high interest recently.

"Coach Barclay is from down south, we share a few things together and he seems like a good coach. They offered me in August before the season and they have been recruiting me pretty hard. Purdue can do a lot in the backfield in the backfield too, so I like them."

A visit to Tallahassee took place before visits were banned earlier this year, and many felt Florida State was the school to beat heading into the October 10 decision date.

"Coach YAC, Coach Norvell, Coach Lock really stand out to me." said White. "When Coach Yac was at Tennessee he recruited me and same with Coach Norvell and Coach Lock at Memphis.

"FSU has stayed very consistent with me in pushing hard. Every day for sure. Their message is they have been recruiting me from the start so come on home"

White talked about Florida's winning under Dan Mullen, how they are getting back to "the old Florida" and the connection with coach Knox as the reasons why the Gators are a factor.

He is now just letting things play out.

"This has been tough with the quarantine going on," said White. "It has been a long process. I am ready to find the right place and get it over with. It should happen soon."
