Jayhawks lead for Texas DT

Garland (Texas) Lakeview Centennial defensive tackle James McClinton has come back from his first official visit with a leader.
"It went wonderful," the 6-foot-1, 289-pound McClinton said of his visit to Kansas. "It was nice. The atmosphere, the college town. It was not too big and not too small."

The agenda kept the three-star defensive tackle on the go throughout the weekend.
"We went to the football game and a basketball game," he said. "They took us out to eat and then out for the evening. We didn't sit around much."
The Jayhawks' coach, Mark Mangino, relayed to McClinton how much they needed defensive linemen in their recruiting class.
"Coach Mangino told me about their needs for defensive linemen in this class," he said. "He is a good man. He was real upfront about the recruiting process. He didn't hide anything. He showed me the depth chart and their needs.
"I'm favoring Kansas right now," he said. "I'm not ready to commit or anything. I want to take my other visits first."
Those visits include a Dec. 5 trip to Iowa, a Dec. 12 trip to Houston and a Jan. 6 trip to SMU.
