Jayhawks first to offer Wilson

Liberal, Kan. running back Kenny Wilson has pulled in his first scholarship offer, and it isn't going to be the last.
"Kansas offered him a scholarship," Liberal coach Rich Anderson said. "I think the thought is if they get in there early and get involved early it will increase their chances. But, kids now want to go where they know they'll win. That is one of the big things. They also want to find a place they can step in and play."

The second of those reasons could give another of Wilson's schools some fits.
"He looks at K-State and sees the number of running backs on their roster and it looks to him like there are a lot of them there. That is something that is in his head."
Anderson said the requests for video of his standout running back have been numerous.
"I think I've sent out 15 tapes this spring already. Oklahoma State, Michigan, most of the northern Big 12 schools. Oklahoma State has gotten a copy too."
The outgoing mail isn't the only one that is full at Liberal High School.
"He gets three or four letters a day here at the school. Missouri sends out a tremendous volume of post cards. We get three or four a week here. He gets them, another player here gets them and I get a copy. They are just one of the schools sending regular stuff."
Later this week, K-State will send defensive coordinator Bob Elliott out to the school.
"Coach Elliott is going to come out here Thursday and visit with me about Kenny. I'm sure he won't be the last one to come by either."
Anderson has asked people who have seen both play how Wilson relates to K-State running back Carlos Alsup.
"There are many people that have been here longer than I have that got the chance to see them both. Kenny is bigger and stronger than Carlos was at this time in his career. How that translates is yet to be seen."
Wilson will need to continue to work on his academic status if he hopes to earn a Division-I scholarship.
"Kenny will need to stay on top of his grades this final three semesters. He has been making a surge over this year. As long as he continues to do it and continues to work hard, he should be alright. He will be taking the ACT in June for the first time."
Wilson's summer plans will more than likely keep him from visiting any camps.
"We keep them pretty busy around here," Anderson said. "We have a team camp we go to. Plus we have our camp here at the school that the state allows us to do. Those are all in June, the same time all the college ones are. So, right now, I'd say he probably won't get anything like that in."
