Jay Smith reopens recruitment

Just a couple weeks back, Rivals250 wide receiver Jay Smith out of Norfolk (Va.) Lake Taylor committed to the Wolfpack. This past weekend North Carolina State's star recruit found out about head coach Chuck Amato's firing. How does that affect his recruitment now?
"I talked to coach Dixon in the past day and he told me they are looking for a new coach," he said. "He wasn't sure if the assistants would be staying, but he told me they'll all have an interview with the new head coach and then he'll decide whether or not they will stay or leave. If coach Dixon stays that would be big for me, but right now I'd say I'm slightly committed to North Carolina State still."

What does the situation mean for the other schools that were recruiting Smith?
"I am going to wait and see what happens with NC State to see who steps in as the new head coach there," he said. "I will say that I am open to other schools and am looking around.
"Virginia Tech has already been in touch with me when they found out about the news. Coach Newsome called and wanted to know where I stood with North Carolina State. He basically said that they'll be there for me if I'm looking around."
Now that he's back in recruiting, the four-star prospect mentioned a few schools he is looking at again.
"I'm going to talk to my dad about the whole situation and wait to see what happens with the Wolfpack," he said. "This is pretty tricky for me because my second choice was Miami and coach Coker got fired too. That puts them in question as well.
" I do think I'll look at a few other schools including Virginia Tech, Tennessee and Clemson. I'm going to sit back for awhile and then I expect to make a final decision right around Signing Day in February."
