Last week, Niles (Ill.) Notre Dame running back Chris James revealed his top two schools were Pittsburgh and Wisconsin. On Saturday, James was in Madison seeing the Badgers take on Purdue.
"That wasn't my first time being up there, and every time I get up there it just gets a little bit louder and a little bit better," James said. "Overall, I think it was a great visit. They left an impression on me."
The running back position has been heavily featured in past Wisconsin offenses, and in the current one under new head coach Gary Andersen. Having a chance to be a part of that tradition is one of the appealing aspects of Wisconsin for James.
"I know the running back (position) is big there and Melvin Gordon is having a big season," James said. "They are trying to bring in another running back and would love for me to be that guy if possible."
The 5-foot-9, 212-pound James was part of a large visitors group in Madison this weekend. Several of the Badger's 2014 class commits were on hand, including one James had met previously.
"Craig Evans, I have known him for awhile and he was up there and we talked for a few," James said. "When I took an unofficial to Michigan State over the summer, he was up there."
James plans to return to Madison for his official visit the weekend of Oct. 12. His first official visit, though, is coming up this next weekend when he travels to Pittsburgh.
"I am definitely excited to get up there," James said.
