Jamabo soaks in South Bend

It was a good weekend for Plano (Texas) Plano West Rivals100 running back Soso Jamabo.
Among the biggest items on his agenda was a visit to South Bend. The trip to Notre Dame was his first official visit, and of course it was a big game weekend with the Michigan Wolverines coming to town.

Jamabo made sure to soak the environment as much as he could, and it is safe to say he enjoyed his time.
"It was pretty dope," Jamabo said. "I got to see a few things I didn't get to see before. I got to experience the atmosphere which was the most important part for me. It's really why I want to go take these visits. It was awesome overall. I just had a really good time."
The atmosphere extended beyond the stadium and Jamabo enjoyed every aspect of it.
"It was awesome," Jamabo said. "Getting to do the walk and seeing all these people call my name and talking about how good a game I had this past week. It was awesome to get to see how good the fans are. And getting to be on the sidelines during warm-ups and seeing the crowd fill in a little bit that was cool too. Then overall the game was awesome. They put it on them. Their defense went off and the offense was putting up some points in the first half and some in the second half. Overall the game was just amazing."
Out of everything he experienced there were few things which stood out from the rest.
"I'd say the student section they had was the most fun for me at the game. I was trying to interact a little bit so that was kind of fun for me," Jamabo said. "Then I just got to talk with the coaches and they all seemed pretty genuine so overall everything was pretty good. It lived up to my expectations, if not surpassed them."
While he took in the atmosphere he also kept a close eye on the game and the offense, which also left a favorable impression on the standout running back.
"I feel like I could go in there and be a pretty good premier back and try to do something special and get some things going," Jamabo said. "Yeah, I think I could fit in pretty well. It's sort of like our offense here at Plano West. So I wouldn't be the most lost in the world going into that offense, so it would work out pretty well."
Following his visit to Notre Dame he is hesitant to name a clear cut leader, but he does admit the Fighting Irish may have a slight edge at this point.
"Yeah especially since that's my only official so far, they probably have a bigger slice of the cake."
Jamabo plans to take his next official visit to UCLA the weekend of October 10 when the Bruins host the Oregon Ducks. At this point he does not have any other visits scheduled after his trip to UCLA, but he does plan to schedule a few more with Baylor, Texas A&M, Oregon, and Arizona State on his short list.
Since Baylor and Texas A&M are in-state programs he could also take a few unofficial visits.
"I'll probably take an unofficial to one or two of A&M and Baylor. Those are really the only two in-state schools I like, so I'll probably take an unofficial to those schools," Jamabo said. "Me and Kyler (Murray) talked about going to the LSU game when A&M plays them."
Jamabo did mention he may buy tickets to this weekend's Texas-UCLA at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
He does not plan to make his decision until he has taken his official visits and has discussed his options with his family.
While the Notre Dame visit and the recruiting process was big on his weekend agenda, Jamabo also had some big plans for Friday night as Plano West took on Sachse.
Jamabo recorded a spectacular 484 yards and 6 touchdowns on 31 carries as Plano West pulled out a 63-49 win and moved to 2-0 on the 2014 season.
It was impressive to say the least.
"Yes sir, that's just the beginning though," Jamabo said. "I'm trying to make a statement."
As a junior Jamabo rushed for 1,077 yards and 10 touchdowns on 120 carries and recorded 15 receptions for 225 yards. In 2012 as a sophomore he rushed for 1,697 yards and 24 touchdowns on 225 carries while recording 453 yards and four touchdowns on 20 receptions.
Jamabo is currently ranked No. 47 in the Rivals100, No. 5 among the nation's 2015 running backs, and No. 7 in the Rivals.com Texas Preseason Top 100.
