Commit No. 1 is in for Wisconsin in the 2020 recruiting class.
Monday evening, in-state offensive lineman Jack Nelson announced his commitment to the Badgers. The standout from Stoughton High School received an offer from UW earlier this fall.
"I have known I wanted to be a Badger all my life," Nelson told BadgerBlitz.com. "Also, being on the line, Wisconsin stands out from any other schools.
"They said they liked my speed of the ball and that I block to the whistle. The coaches were very happy when I told them and excited for my future. They just said to keep working and developing as a football player and student."
A 6-foot-7, 242-pound sophomore, Nelson was also hearing from Iowa early in the process. The co-offensive lineman of the year in Badger-South Conference is the son of Todd Nelson, who played for the Badgers in the late 1980s.
"My dad helped me make me into the football player I am, but it was my decision to commit to UW," Nelson said. "The culture of the whole football program, specifically on the offensive line, really stood out. It's also a great school to get a degree from."
