Island DB has offers

One of the best safety prospects in the western region for the class of 2004 is Al Afalava (6-0, 180, 4.5) from Kahuku, Hawai’i. Afalava was one of the reasons that Kahuku won the Hawai’i state championship and sported a perfect 14-0 record.
Afalava was earned first-team all-state honors as junior. He’s a clutch performer who makes big plays during crunch time.

“Al has a great work ethic,” Kahuku coach Siuaki Livai said. “He’s a big time player with big time talent.”
“Al is a good all-around athlete,” Livai said. “He plays basketball, participates in track as well as he stands out in football.”
“We have a lot of defensive backs starting on the D-I level,” Livai said. “Al will be another. He compares to the best guys we have had.”
Afalava is your typical Kahuku safety who can hit in run support and is also excellent as a pass defender. His two interceptions against Kauai in the first game of the playoffs of 2003 started Kahuku’s route in what was a close game.
Besides being a rough and ready safety, Afalava also returns punts.
“We had over 50 schools that came by this past spring,” Livai said. “All of them are interest in Al.”
According Livai Colorado and Hawai’i have already come to the table with offers. There could even be more but Livai was only sure of the Buffalos and Warriors offers.
Oregon, Oregon State and Washington are others that recruit Kahuku hard and are looking at Afalava.
