Is Summers-Gavin getting closer

San Francisco (Calif.) St. Ignatius offensive lineman Matt Summers-Gavin took his second and final official visit this past weekend to Cal. The talented tackle prospect had earlier visited Notre dame and could decide between the two as soon as the end of the week.
Summers-Gavin, 6-4, 275 pounds is one of the nation’s top line prospects. He has the ability to play anywhere on the offensive line in college but is being recruited by both the Bears and the Irish as a future left tackle.

“I had a great visit,” Summers-Gavin said. “The weather wasn’t great but that’s the Bay Area for you, it’s nothing I’m not used to. There were a lot of players on the visit and that made it pretty unique. It was fun though, those were some great guys and it was fun meeting some new people.
“I spent a lot of time with guys like D.J. Holt, Todd Huber, Alex Lagemann and a few others. Todd talked to me a lot about how great it would be to play together and how we could build something special together on the offensive line.
“Alex Mack, the starting center, was my host but I hung out with a lot of the players. There is a great camaraderie on the team and I felt a real family atmosphere there. The guys are a bunch of hard working guys but they’re far from stiffs, we had a lot of fun together.
“One of the many things that stood out to me was the academic support there. I talked with a lot of the guys on the team about it and they said the support is great there but it’s up to you to take advantage of it. Cal is rated the No. 1 Public University in the country and it’s just a great place.
“I had every one of my questions answered and I can’t honestly think of a single negative about the visit. Both Cal and Notre Dame were basically perfect visits and it’s going to be a very tough decision for me.
“Coach Tedford and Coach Michalczik will be in the home this Thursday for a visit. Coach Weis already came by two weeks ago. I basically have all my questions answered already about the schools but I think Coach Tedford just wants to come by to show their support and make sure I know how interested they are.
“I’m just going to take this week and there is a chance I could have my decision by the weekend. At the latest, it will be by the Army All-American game but more than likely it will be much sooner than that.”
