Despite an early commitment to UCLA, Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw offensive lineman Aleksey Lanis raised some eyebrows recently when he first attended Stanford's Junior Day and then said he would be applying to the school to see if he would be able to clear admissions. Is the Rivals 100 player wavering on his commitment?
Lanis, 6-5, 315 pounds is one of the elite offensive lineman in the country and it was a huge coup when the Bruins picked up an early commitment from the talented lineman. Lanis attended the Cardinal Junior Day two weeks ago and had nothing but positive things to say about the school.
"It's a great campus and I liked everyone I talked with," Lanis said. "For me though, I'm still very committed to UCLA and I'm not wavering at all. I'll always keep my options open but UCLA is where I want to go and really, I'm just curious to see if I could be accepted in to a school like Stanford. The application process is more for my personal satisfaction than anything. I'm going to apply to MIT for the same reason, just to see if I could get in but I'm going to UCLA."
"I want to play early and UCLA gives me the best chance to do so. I'm comfortable with the coaches and the players on the team and I think it's the best option for me. Like I said, I'm not wavering at all right now."
