Is Irby getting close
There may not be a more versatile player out of the West region this year than Ventura (Calif.) St. Bonaventure standout Blaine Irby. The talented athlete has six schools on his list and could be close to narrowing things down even further.

Irby, 6-2, 225 pounds could play a number of positions in college and is one of the best all around players in the region. He was used primarily as a tight end/H-Back as a junior but is also now getting looks as a linebacker. He has plus size, speed and strength and should be excel on either side of the ball.
At the NIKE Camp at USC last April, Irby tested off the charts running a 4.58-40, 4.23 in the shuttle, jumped 33 inches in the vertical and did 35 reps on the bench. His 97.71 SPARQ Rating was the top rating in the entire camp.
On the recruiting front, rumors swirl that Irby is down to Texas and Arizona State but according to Seraph coach Jon Mack, there are still six schools in the running.
"I just got off the phone with him five minutes ago," Mack said. "He was at Texas this past weekend and is at Arizona State right now. He definitely likes those two a lot but we haven't narrowed things down to two just yet. USC, UCLA, Cal and Michigan are still in it as well as those two.
"We're going to sit down later in the week when we're both home. I'm in Las Vegas right now and he'll be coming home Wednesday so probably Thursday we'll sit down and discuss if he wants to narrow his list to a final two or just go ahead and make his decision. He won't be doing anything until later in the week and right now, I really don't think he has that one school picked out yet."
Although Coach Mack mentioned six schools still being in the hunt, from what we've heard from other sources, it would be a mild surprise if Irby chooses anyone other than Texas or ASU and at this point, it's too close to call, especially with the athlete taking one last unofficial visit to Tempe as we speak.
