Defensive tackle Carl Howard is as versatile as they come on the line, combining strength and explosion with quickness. He has plenty of offers, but is he ready to narrow down his list?
"Things are still pretty much open," he said. "A couple of things have changed since the summer, but not really much. I'm interested in schools like NC State, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Wisconsin, Syracuse and Michigan State. Those schools have all impressed me with what they've said and what I've seen."
Each of those schools have offered Howard a scholarship, so they obviously think highly of the 6-foot-5, 295-pound Matawan, N.J. product.
"I've been bulking up since last season," said Howard. "Right now I'm about 6-foot-5 and 295 pounds. I've done what I wanted to do -- maintain my quickness while becoming bigger. When you get to the next level and you're consistently going against 310 and 320 pound offensive linemen, you're going to wear down if you aren't big yourself. I think schools will be a lot more interested in me because of how I've grown."
Has Howard set up any official visits yet?
"I'm actually getting ready to get started on that," said Howard. "I would like to take all five visits, but it's going to be really hard deciding where to take them. Then I'll have to fit them into my schedule somehow. I'll probably make my decision after all the visits are over and I have a chance to compare all the schools."
