John Beason of Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna is one of the early candidates for the honor of top linebacker in Florida. Funny thing is that’s not his high school position.
“People are talking to me about playing linebacker, but Inlay strong safety in high school,” Beason said. “It will be different, but if that’s where they want me that is where I’ll play.”
Beason, the 6-foot-1 and 210 pound linebacker is hearing from schools across the country in regard to his talent.
“I like Miami, Florida State, Oklahoma, and Virginia Tech off the top of my head,” he said. “I have an offer from Virginia Tech, but other than those I am also hearing from Ohio State, Michigan State, among others.”
Beason said he grew up as a Florida State fan but plans to keep his options open.
“FSU hasn’t been sending as much mail as I would like until here lately, but they have picked it up,” he said. “Though, Antoine (Rutherford) went to Virginia Tech, and I plan to take a good look around before deciding.”
Most in Florida are ‘Canes or ‘Noles, usually there isn’t much in between.
“I like them both but I was born in 1985 so when I was starting to notice football Florida State was the team nationally,” he said.
“Miami even though they are just like 20 minutes from my house, they were on probation when I got into football, so it was a little harder to follow them.”
