Is Carpenter a Bruin

There has been a rumor circulating around that Westlake, Calif., quarterback Rudy Carpenter (6-3, 190, 4.7) has committed to UCLA. At this point it is nothing but a rumor.
The word is UCLA has offered Carpenter a scholarship this week. Carpenter was scheduled to take an unofficial visit to UCLA this weekend but that is now being postponed because he’s has a basketball game.

“Not true,” Carpenter said regarding his alleged commitment to UCLA. “UCLA has offered this week.”
“I talked to Coach (Karl) Dorrell but I didn’t commit to him,” Carpenter said. “I want to take my visit to Arizona State (January 10th) so I have something to compare UCLA to.”
“I was scheduled to take an unofficial visit to UCLA on January 9th,” Carpenter said. “But I have a basketball game that evening. I may talk to Coach Dorrell after my basketball game but I will now take my unofficial visit to UCLA on Monday.”
UCLA had been Carpenter’s early favorite and the Bruins are doing a nice job recruiting him and if everything goes all right could make his commitment on Monday after he visits the campus.
Carpenter also has a trip scheduled to Arizona on January 23rd.
Whoever lands Carpenter will get a fiery competitor at quarterback. He is very competitive no matter what sport he plays. He just tossed in 22 points the other night against Newbury Park in the league opener and he’s also competes in baseball.
Carpenter has seen his stock soar after leading Westlake to a 14-0 record and a Southern Section CIF Division IV championship.
Carpenter and his mates also beat CIF Division II Champs Newhall (Calif.) Hart and CIF Division III Champs Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame during their championship season.
Carpenter threw for 2,705 yards and 35 touchdowns against only six interceptions. He can also make plays with his feet rushing for 554 yards and four rushing touchdowns.
