Irwin holds crucial in-home visits

Trent Irwin is drawing closer to a decision so the in-home visits he has this week could be crucial as he reaches a commitment.
The four-star wide receiver from Newhall (Calif.) Hart who finished with 106 catches for 1,974 yards and 22 touchdowns in his senior season hosted Stanford coach David Shaw on Wednesday night.

Everything went well as Irwin and Shaw chatted and the four-star standout got a much better feel for what would be expected if he ended up with the Cardinal.
"We started off talking about normal stuff and communicating and getting an understanding for each other," Irwin said. "Then we started talking about the application process and what I would have to do if I wanted to get into Stanford.
"Then we chatted about the program and pretty much just about who's staying there, who will be the upcoming receivers and quarterbacks and players who will be there and just about Stanford football in general."
Irwin, rated as the sixth-best wide receiver and the No. 42 prospect in the 2015 class by Rivals.com, had only praise and admiration for Shaw and that could be big as his decision gets closer.
"He's a great person and a great coach," Irwin said. "I have tons of respect for him. We had a good conversation and it was fun just getting to know more stuff about the receivers there. It was nice talking to him and he's a great dude so it was fun."
Arizona State is bringing its coaches in Saturday for an in-home with Irwin, who is basically down to ASU and Stanford and could decide in the coming weeks. One thing that is drawing Irwin to the Sun Devils is the opportunity to keep playing with Hart teammate and four-star quarterback Brady White.
"I believe coach (DelVaughn) Alexander will come by," Irwin said. "I talked to him and I think a lot of them are coming down. I know at Brady's house they will be there, too."
UCLA could have an in-home visit with Irwin on Thursday but the Bruins definitely trail in his recruitment at least at this point. A planned commitment timetable of December 8-12 is loose and Irwin could wait longer if needed.
"I'm getting closer and getting a better understanding of the programs and where I would fit, who's there, who's going to be there in the future," Irwin said. "I know I'm getting closer to decision time. I don't know if that will be December 12 but I'm getting closer."
