Irish, Tide seek visits from DL

Four-star Madison (Ala.) Bob Jones defensive lineman David Brown says he’s close to scheduling a couple of his official visits.
“Coach Willingham from Notre Dame called this weekend, and coach Miles called back tonight,” he said. “I think I’m going to be going up there for an official visit for the BYU game (Nov. 14-15) if it doesn’t conflict with our team in the playoffs. But that’s one official visit I’m pretty sure of. The other one is Alabama, but it’s not set in stone or anything. There’s still a lot of possibilities I’m wide open to.”

Brown (6-3, 255, 4.8) said he also talked to Georgia Tech on the phone Wednesday. The Yellow Jackets are one of several major offers, including Alabama, Notre Dame, Auburn, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Stanford, South Carolina and Mississippi State.
“I haven’t narrowed my list down too much,” he said. “It’s been hard. I like a lot of places for different reasons. Vanderbilt has really made a rise since I visited there. I like what they’re all about. I really enjoyed their coaches and players. I felt comfortable around them. Before I visited there, I don’t think I really would have considered them as much as I do now.”
Brown has made two other unofficial visits, taking in the Oklahoma game at Alabama and the USC game at Auburn. This weekend, he plans to attend South Carolina’s game at Tennessee.
Through four games this season, Bob Jones has a 2-2 record. Brown said it’s been a bit of a difficult start because he’s played five different positions.
“They use me at a lot of different positions depending on who we play,” he said. “I’ve been starting at defensive end and offensive tackle. I’ve also played tight end, what we call “wormback,” which is an extra wing or slot guy, and defensive tackle. It was the first time I’ve ever played the offensive line, and I graded out tied for the highest on the team.”
Brown said he didn’t know any of his defensive stats on the season. As a junior, he recorded 68 tackles and 11 tackles for loss. He's rated the No. 8 strongside defensive end in the nation by Rivals.com.
Academically, Brown maintains a 3.7 GPA and has scored a 23 on the ACT.
